Christie a 35-year-old nurse and whitewater kayaker from Hood River, Oregon. She’s been paddling since she was 17 years old. Christie grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah but followed the water to the Columbia River Gorge where she met her husband, Drew. She loves to explore rivers around the world but her favorite place to paddle is the Pacific Northwest. It is the land of the waterfalls. In 2009 Christie set the current world record for highest waterfall kayaked by a woman when she paddled over Eagle Creek’s Metlako Falls (100 ft. waterfall with an 82 ft. freefall). These days Christie likes to stick to smaller drops, compete in downriver racing, and venture out on multi-days wilderness river trips. She loves her job as a nurse, and when the creeks aren’t running she spend her free time snowboarding on Mount Hood, stand-up paddling on the Columbia, or surfing on the Oregon coast.
