Chasing Sunshine: How Goldfish Kiss Keeps Summer in Her Soul

Chasing Sunshine: How Goldfish Kiss Keeps Summer in Her Soul

As the days get shorter and layers pile on, artist and writer Rebekah Steen — known to her sun-soaked followers as Goldfish Kiss — keeps the warmth alive through her watercolor worlds and feel-good philosophy. Her work captures the essence of endless summer: tropical hues, ocean calm, and that unshakable sense of joy that comes from salty air and open skies.

We chatted with Rebekah (pictured wearing our new Resort Swim Collection) about staying inspired through winter, the rituals that keep her connected to the sea, and why creativity might just be the ultimate kind of sunshine.

How do you carry light, energetic, summer vibes with you all year long?

I’m not sure if it's a conscious decision, but it’s a bit of who I am, I guess. I always look for reasons to smile and laugh, little moments to soak up, and I don’t feel guilty for enjoying life or being myself. I’m a firm believer in the healing power of nature and getting fresh air year-round, which helps bring that positive vibe. I’m also just kinda of an energetic, positive-energy person. But also equally good at being quiet and soaking up a moment or feeling.

Ok, some good tunes, going barefoot whenever possible, and strong coffee all help, too.

And then there’s my art. It gives me purpose, an outlet, and a way to create something bright and beautiful, regardless of what’s going on outside. I think some of my saddest times are when I’ve created some of the brightest pieces. Don’t let the neon splatter paint fool you; it was most likely done out of frustration on a cold, rainy night when I was in the same pair of sweats I’d worn for a week. Art is so amazing like that. It’s crazy how a line, a paint blob of color combo can bring a warm hug to you, whether you're looking at it or creating it.

So much of your art, style, and photography is centered around the ocean and surrounding areas... What about tropical locations inspires you so much?

I swear, sunshine, sand, wide open spaces, and saltwater all ignite some sort of creative fire in my brain. And I love it. Maybe because I’m in awe of so many places by the ocean. The beach makes creating so simple for me. All my clothes seem to work together, my brain writes poems and sketches paintings as I just walk, paddle, swim or breathe, and I take so many pics it’s hilarious. I guess when it all feels right and right at home, it’s hard not to be inspired.

Thanks Rebekah for always bringing the good vibes and being a source of inspiration to our entire team!
