Friday Distraction: A Love Letter to Cut-Offs

Friday Distraction: A Love Letter to Cut-Offs

A Love Letter to Cut-Offs: The Oahu Collection

We have an unusual litmus test for proving our youthfulness when we feel “old.” Maybe it’s when we come across an old photo or when we notice a new wrinkle or when the grocery store clerk doesn’t even pretend to card us for the wine we're buying (rude).

“But I can still rock my cut-off shorts,” we tell ourselves. It is impossible to feel old in cut-offs.

Here at Carve Designs, we believe that cut-offs are more than just a summer uniform, they’re a declaration that we’ve still got it: The silly dance moves, the inside jokes, the ability to not take ourselves too seriously, all the things that makes us, us, no matter how old we really are.

We designed the Oahu Shorts to be the perfect pair of cut-offs we couldn’t find in stores; an homage to a timeless summer staple we believe isn’t just for 20 year olds. We constructed them in garment dyed stretch cotton corduroy for a worn-in feel and vintage style, and we went wild with a selection of colors that ranges from traditional indigo to whimsical flamingo. After wearing the Oahu shorts for a couple seasons, we loved them so much we couldn’t resist making an Oahu Skirt as well.

If you’ve worn Carve Designs' clothes before you know we didn’t cut any corners when it came to crafting a perfect fit that flatters real womens’ bodies. A curved waistband with a higher rise in the back offers plenty of seat coverage without gapping, and a natural fit through the hips lets you move (and sit!) comfortably.  A four inch inseam on the shorts and a 13.5 inch length on the skirt offer that not-too-short and not-too-long coverage that seems almost to find, and five-pocket styling keeps things classic.

We’ve paired out Oahu shorts and skirt with everything from a blouse and wedges for date night, to a bikini top and sun hat for a day on the beach. Our new summer litmus test? If I can't wear my Oahus, I don’t want to go.

No blender needed for this lighter, more refreshing take on the classic poolside drink. The Shaken Piña Colada uses minimal coconut milk and give it just the right amount of richness. This recipe will transport you to paradise and getting caught in the rain is not required. Get the recipe, grab some girls friends and cheers to the warmer summer months ahead.

A perfect soundtrack for the opening days of summer, "It’s Too Late" combines sultry, soul-tinged vocals with an understated, marching melody constructed of guitar strokes and a whole heap of sass. And then they hit us with the sax solo – what more could we want? Turn this jam on and enjoy the rising warm temps. Listen to our Friday Distractions playlist and get fresh new tunes every month.
