Friday Distractions: Evoking Nostalgia

Friday Distractions: Evoking Nostalgia

It's Friday, so do yourself a favor by taking a little break from your day to read the weekly CD blog: Friday Distractions.  You will learn about a new song, an amazing drink recipe (we always keep it simple and low cal) and the product we are loving right now.  So read on, click the links and treat yourself to a little distraction this Friday!

The song pick this week evokes major nostalgia as it comes from an artist formerly and presently known as Prince.  The bones of the track were recorded at a June 7th, 1984 gig at Minneapolis' First Avenue, a show that occurred on Prince's 26th birthday just weeks before the release of Purple Rain.  "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden" is just one of the many unreleased songs featured on the upcoming Purple Rain reissue due out June 23rd!!

Ok, so check out the drink recipe this week...we are particularly excited by this one as the main ingredient is rhubarb!  Rhubarb is a majorly underused fruit? veggie? stalk?  Well whatever it is technically we absolutely love the tangy sweet taste but only have ever had it in a strawberry rhubarb pie, and because we're not bakers, this drink offers the opportunity to bring the lovely summer time root(?) into play by way of a frothy delicious daiquiri!

Ingredients
MAKES 1
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1½ cups coarsely grated rhubarb, divided
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1¾ ounces white rum
  • ¾ ounce fresh lime juice

First you make a rhubarb simple syrup and don't worry, its super easy: Bring sugar and ½ cup water to a boil in a small saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat, add ½ cup rhubarb, and simmer until fruit starts to fall apart and mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in remaining 1 cup rhubarb. Let sit 30 minutes. Strain.  Stir in lemon juice and salt. Cover and chill until cold, at least 30 minutes.

The great part is Rhubarb syrup can be made 1 week ahead and kept in the fridge.  You can also just add it to sparkling water for tasty drink any time!

Combine rum, lime juice, and 1 oz. rhubarb simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake until the outside of the shaker is frosty, about 20 seconds. Strain into a coupe glass.

Now, our favorite part!  We get to share a Carve Designs product with you and highlight the great factors that make our products special.  Easy to wear, flattering, stylish, fun colors and prints, and for the swim, designed to stay put while you are out there on your adventures.  The Gansett dress is just one of those products.  This versatile dress promises to become the summer favorite.
