Friday Distractions: Women's Surf Film Festival

Happy Friday from the team at Carve Designs. Our office is located in the Northern California town called Mill Valley. It's just a hair north of San Francisco, with a short scenic drive over the Golden Gate Bridge through a rainbow tunnel and just far enough away that the fog seems to bother us less, a lot less #karlthefog. Nestled in the valley at the bottom of Mt. Tamalpais and a 10 minute drive to the Pacific, various amazing surf spots and the gigantic redwoods in Muir Woods, we couldn't feel more blessed about our location. That being said...every town and city across this tremendous nation of ours has their pros and getting out to see it all is one of the greatest gifts we have as Americans.

TRAVEL

This week we are sharing a travel spot with you. A sweet and magical little gem of a lodge located on the eastern seaboard. The Surf Lodge, in Montauk NY is a surfers dream as well as an interior designers dream, check out the images of the rooms in this lodge, swoon worthy for sure.

Here's the other big news about this place...this weekend they are hosting the 5th annual Women's Surf Film Festival.  As much as we love our little town out here in Northern California, man do we wish we were living close enough to Montauk to make it to this Film Festival. The purpose of this festival in the creators words:

"In New York, we'll share through film the spirit and inspiration of women wave riders from around the globe. Surfing is our passion. As women surfers, we share a special connection through our mutual love for the ocean and the creative energy sparked by celebrating our adventure stories. The New York Women’s Surf Film Festival aims to generate awareness of this special subculture and the local businesses that support them."

MUSIC

NOW for the song pic! This weeks song is called Slow Motion, by PHOX. PHOX is an American six-piece alternative folk/indie pop band from Baraboo, Wisconsin (also the former headquarters and winter home of the Ringling Brothers circus).

"Simply put, Phox singer Monica Martin is a star. With beauty and style matched by a rich voice that evokes a young Billie Holiday, Martin gives Phox’s quirky approach to songwriting depth and grace. That’s not to say the rest of the band doesn’t stand on their own. Their musicianship is carefree and purely creative."  You'll see all of this in the music video, click the picture below for the link.

CARVE PICK

Our Carve pick of the week, the Dunmore Top is a versatile top that's a great transition piece for Summer to Fall. Wear this with shorts, jeans or over your bathing suit as a cover up. The light weight gauzy fabric is wearable on a hot day, but the long sleeves will keep you covered when the Fall chill sets in. This breezy top is a breath of fresh air in any wardrobe. An ultra lightweight fabric with embroidery details evokes the feeling of a balmy summer night all year long. A relaxed fit with a slight high-low hemline keeps things casual, but the banded collar and full length sleeves add a dash of Elegance.
