The Second Life of Fabric

The Second Life of Fabric

Fifty-two recycled plastic bottles should not feel this good.

Technically, 52.5 per fleece.

Our mill confirmed it: one yard of our recycled fleece contains about 30 recycled 500ml plastic bottles. Scout uses about 1.75 yards.

So yes, the math is weirdly compelling.

Fleece also has no business being sexy.

Did someone turn CERN off and back on? Is that what’s happening here?

Because historically, fleece has been found in a garage bin next to a tangled extension cord and something you swore you were taking to Goodwill.

It’s what you put on to wash your car. The one with a logo from some convention your mom went to in 1997.

I wanted a fleece that had that rare thing it almost never has.

Style.

Not by making fleece fancy. Please no.

Keep the softness. The warmth. Keep the easy throw on quality fleece is famous for.

Lose the sad little corporate retreat vibe.

Make it cool, make it recycled. Make it something you’d want even if you didn’t know the backstory.

After the beach. Bare legs, wet hair, skin that still smells like sunscreen.

I love it with something super feminine.

A satiny Kindsilk skirt, for example. Soft fleece up top, silky skirt underneath, bare ankle, maybe a sandal or ballet flat. That is the tension I like.

Cozy, but not sleepy.

Cinch the drawcord hem a little. Let the shape hit higher. Suddenly it’s not a fleece you found in a bin. It’s the outfit.

You already own a fleece. Probably several.

We're not reinventing the category. We're just making the version of it that makes more sense.

Warm. Soft. Recycled. Actually cool.

Because the real flex is not just that Scout is made from recycled plastic bottles.

The flex is that you’d want to wear it even if it wasn’t.

Fifty two bottles. One hell of a glow up.

Turns out being recycled is kind of hot.
