Some mornings, I know how the day’s going to feel before it starts.
Not because of what I have planned.
Because of what I put on.
Clothes set a tone. Not in a dramatic way—just enough to notice. Some days I want softness. Other days I want structure. And on the days that feel flat or heavy, I’ll reach for color. Not to make a statement. Just because it helps.
I’ve learned that what I wear affects how I move through the day. If something feels right—comfortable, familiar, easy—I’m less distracted by it. If it doesn’t, I notice that too.
Late winter is usually when this matters most. The weather’s in between. Everything still requires layers. Your closet can start to feel repetitive.
This is when I stop waiting for my mood to improve and dress in a way that supports it instead. Sometimes that’s color. Sometimes it’s texture. Sometimes it’s just wearing the piece I know works.
I don’t think about outfits in terms of “rules.” I pay attention to how things feel. If something’s stiff, itchy, or fussy, I skip it. If I forget about it once it’s on, it usually means it’s right.
Getting dressed isn’t a solution to anything. But it’s one of the few decisions we make every morning, and it has more influence than we tend to admit.
Some days, that’s enough.
