Design Diaries: The Jordy Dress
There are pieces you buy because they’re pretty.
And then there are pieces you buy because they quietly solve your life.
The Jordy dress is the second one.
If you saw it on a hanger, you might think: simple black slip dress. Pretty. Easy. Done.
But the whole point of Jordy is that it’s more than that.
It’s the most useful dress to own. You just don’t know it yet.
The Problem We Were Trying to Solve
I’ve always wanted a dress that could move across seasons without feeling like I was forcing it.
Something I could:
Wear over a swimsuit on vacation
Throw on with sneakers and a sweater in fall
Layer under a blazer for work
Add boots to in winter
Reach for on a humid night and not regret
Most dresses are moment-specific.
Too summery.
Too precious.
Too thin.
Too fussy.
Jordy started with a question: what if one dress could do almost everything?
Why It Works
First, the fabric.
It has subtle texture, which keeps it from feeling flat. The drape is easy, but not clingy. It skims instead of grabs. That’s always the line I’m walking.
I don’t want you adjusting it all night.
Then the fit.
We spent a lot of time here. The straps needed to sit just right. The neckline needed to feel flattering but secure. The back had to work with a bra. There’s a hidden strap detail back there that makes a bigger difference than you’d think. Small design decisions are usually the ones that matter most.
The shape is relaxed, but intentional. Enough room to move. Enough structure to feel polished.
That balance is everything.
The Year-Round Dress You Didn’t Plan On
On vacation, it’s breezy over swim. Sandals. Hair salty. Done.
In early fall, I wear it with a chunky sweater thrown over the top and sneakers. It almost reads like a skirt at that point.
When it’s colder, I layer it under an over-sized knit with boots. Add tights if you need to. The texture keeps it from disappearing under layers.
For work, it’s surprisingly polished under a blazer or bomber with flats. The simplicity is what makes it versatile.
It’s one of those pieces that changes personality depending on what you put with it.
That’s not accidental. That’s design.
The Design Philosophy Behind It
When we create something like Jordy, we’re not thinking about one photoshoot or one season.
We’re thinking about how it lives in your closet.
Does it travel well?
Does it layer?
Does it earn its place more than once?
Will you still want it next year?
We obsess over fit because confidence is quiet. It’s how you feel when something just works.
We obsess over ease because clothes should fit into your life, not the other way around.
And we obsess over versatility because women are dynamic. One day is never just one thing.
That philosophy has always guided how I design. A little East Coast polish. A little West Coast ease. Structure and softness, living together.
The Real Test
The real test for me is this:
Do I pack it without questioning it?
Jordy has been in my suitcase more times than I can count. It’s come to warm places and cold ones. I’ve worn it three different ways in one weekend and no one noticed.
That’s when I know we got it right.
It’s not loud. It’s not trend-driven. It’s not trying to be the star of the show.
It’s just incredibly useful.
And sometimes, that’s the most powerful thing in your closet.
If you could only bring one dress on your next trip, would it have to work year-round?
